Time and place: Tuesday 13 March 2018, 12:30-13:30, BG West 640, BK, TU Delft
Dag Kittang is a professor in urban conservation and planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He has a master in architecture and defended his doctoral dissertation “The wooden town of Trondheim  –  modernisation or conservation” in 2006. He is doing research on the topic architectural and urban conservation and together with The Department of Urbanism, TU Delft, he is working on a JPI Cultural heritage project, PICH – The impact on urban planning and governance reform on the historic built environment and intangible cultural heritage.
The lecture will look into the contradiction between renewal and preservation of historic areas and how this is reflected in different planning models in modern urban planning. The lecture will also explore how this conflict is perceived in urban planning today. Has a neoliberal governance model and public austerity affected the way urban heritage are managed in historic cities today?
