On 4-7 June 2017 the Regional Studies Association (RSA) 2017 Annual Conference has taken place in Dublin, Ireland, under the title ‘The Great Regional Awakening: New Directions’. A group of researchers from universities in several European countries (Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia) have been involved in the organization of a session on regional design and governance re-scaling. Presentations during the session elaborated upon processes of governance rescaling in countries as well as upon tools and instruments to influence such processes. Verena Balz from the SP&S chair was a co-organizer and presenter.

The group of researchers who organized the session plan for setting up a dedicated RSA community of researchers, interested in interrelations between regional design, regional planning and governance re-scaling. Efforts build up upon earlier events (see e.g. here and here). Information on proceedings will become available via this blog.
