Ceren Sezer is invited by the Lucerne University of Applied Science and Arts to give a lecture about urban policy and transformation of immigrant neighbourhoods in the Netherlands. This lecture will take place during the International Summer School on Interdisciplinary Urban and Community Planning on July 2 2019 . The summer school is organised by the Lucerne University of Applied Science and Arts and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Urban policy and transformation of immigrant neighbourhoods in the Netherlands
This lecture is about the relationship between immigrant integration and urban policies in the Netherlands in the period between the post-war until the 2010s. It presents how the gradual shift from a social democratic towards a liberal welfare regime since the 1980s has influenced urban policies, which in turn, have had a direct impact on the location and transformation of immigrant neighbourhoods. I argue that the outcomes of the urban transformation processes are detrimental for the social inclusion of the immigrant groups, which is the main objective of the integration policies. The lecture focuses on the situation of immigrant neighbourhoods in Amsterdam.
