Topic: Contemporary Practices of Citizenship in Asia and the West
Speaker: Gregory Bracken

This seminar presented some of the key ideas contained in the book ‘Contemporary Practices of Citizenship in Asia and the West’ (2020), a collection of essays examining urban communities and societies in Asia and the West. this book is volume two in a series examining care of the self in cities in Asia and the West. The essays highlight challenges to citizenship, and even the right to the city itself. Written by a range of academics from different backgrounds (architecture, urbanism, anthropology, social science, psychology, gender studies, history, and philosophy) their trans- and multidisciplinary approaches shed valuable light on what are sometimes quite old problems, but lead to fresh perspectives and news ways of dealing with them.
