Monday 10 June the SPS chair had the second meeting about strategy of the chair for the coming years. This time it was about research strategy. EPRC colleagues Laura Polverari and Fabian Gal were invited and contributed to the output of the meeting.

Four emerging research themes and opportunities were identified for the near future:

  1. Automation and digitalisation, not only autonomous cars, but also automation at work and in production processes, its planning, social, ethical implications for the city (also in the Global South).
  2. Migration and its socio-spatial challenges for cities.
  3. Spatial justice and major social cleavages (gentrification, financialisation of housing markets, social housing decline, identity tensions, social integration of migrants, etc.).
  4. Circular economy and its spatial implications.
