“Rick Vermeulen is an urban planner with a clear interest in metropolitan development. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning and a master in Metropolitan studies, both at the University of Amsterdam, he started a dual career combining both research and practice. Within the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) he has started as PhD candidate performing a research on the spatial development of large-scale conference and exhibition centers. Rick was invited to give a contribution to the Methodology course, which is coordinated by the Chair of Spatial Planning and Strategy. Rick contributed by giving an excellent review on case studies in Urbanism, and by highlighting the bridges and differences between research activities in the practice and in academia.
